ANAFE’s exhibition booth was the main attraction at the CCARDESA Youth Summit that took place on 3rd – 6th August 2015 in Durban, South Africa. Participants were mainly attracted by ANAFE’s newly developed Agribusiness curricula, which encompass all tertiary education levels – Certificate, Diploma, Masters and PhD.
Within minutes of display, all the hard copies of the curricula had been picked by the participants; those who did not manage to get a copy were relieved to know that they could download the same from ANAFE’s website. Participants – mainly the youth –thronged ANAFE’s booth seeking to know how they can benefit from the programmes offered by ANAFE.
The youth summit focused on involving the youth in agribusiness to transform and improve the agricultural sector in Southern Africa. The objectives coincide neatly with one of ANAFE’s core values of ensuring that young women and men are aware of and actively engage in the diverse, rewarding and valuable careers available in the agriculture and related sectors. While making a presentation during the Summit, ANAFE’s Southern Africa RAFT Chair, Prof Stanley Makuza said the youth form an important constituency in ANAFE’s programs.
“One of our core values is to empower the youth and women where we aim to significantly increase the participation of women and youth in agricultural education, training and research as students, lecturers, researchers, managers, entrepreneurs and leaders” he said.
